Bill Given crowdsourcing 2018 State of the City address

Bill Given asked and social media answered. He turned to Facebook to try to zero in on the topics residents would like to hear him talk about at this year’s State of the City address on Thursday.

The Grande Prairie Mayor will take the chance to talk about a variety of topics including ones that were suggested to him.

“There were some major theme’s that arose. But there were also a pretty wide diversity of topics and issues that people wanted to hear about at the State of the City. I won’t be able to get to all of them but I do intend to specifically identify some of the people by name.”

He says the topic suggestions did go beyond potholes and taxes, though he says they definitely came up.

“I am going to speak to those in the State of the City but there are also some very specific questions and I hope to be able to answer at least a few of those.”

This will be the first address since the election of the current city council and since they have wrapped up their strategic planning. Given says after 6 months with the new they are really seeing the diverse strengths they all bring to the table.

“We’ve also set in place some very significant changes to the organization that are actively changing the way we do business.”

The State of the City address is hosted by the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce. It is Thursday at the Montrose Cultural Centre.
