Muskoseepi Park re-opens to the public

Muskoseepi Park is now open to the public. After the park was closed Saturday due to flooding there were hopes for a partial re-opening Tuesday but further inspections were required.

The city says they are now able to allow access to the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion and The Grande Prairie Museum. In an update Tuesday Deputy Director Arlen Miller said sand bags had been placed around the museum.

“The water never did quite reach where the sandbags were but it was good proactive action.”

Miller also says all signs seemed to indicate that the worst of the flooding is behind us.

“The information we have is it does seem to be receding outside the city boundaries as well. Some of the county roads are maybe drying up a bit and 116 Street we were concerned about but the water has receded there as well.”

Director of Infrastructure and Protective Services Horacio Galanti says a large evacuation of Muskoseepi Park was completed in record time.

“City staff managed the flash water flows passing through the spillway. The public was kept informed and safe, the dam was preserved from spilling over and the downstream infrastructure was maintained with minimal damage.”

The city says they will continue to monitor the Bear Creek Resevoir levels.

Flooding impacted areas around the region as well including Sexmith and Hythe where a state of emergency was in place until Monday.
