UPDATE: Muskoseepi Park to stay closed at least 3-4 days

UPDATE: Muskoseepi Park will stay closed for at least three to four days. The latest update from GPREP says it won’t reopen until all of the water recedes and a damage assessment is done.

The public is urged to stay away from the Bear Creek corridor and reservoir and to not cross any barricades.

Muskoseepi Park is still closed Sunday due to flooding potential. Officials with the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership say water levels have not gone down since Saturday night, when the park was evacuated.

The city has been letting more water out of the dam than usual, which has reportedly protected it and reduced levels in the dam. However, it has also increased flows downstream.

GPREP says many paths are under water and the creek banks and slopes are extremely unstable. People are urged to stay away from the Bear Creek corridor, but it is safe to drive on the bridges over the creek.

While cooler temperatures are in the forecast for Sunday, they’re expected to reach the mid-teens for the rest of the week which will melt more snow. Muskoseepi Park will stay closed until water levels go down and a damage assessment is done.
