Armed robbery suspect leads police on chase

A man from Blackfalds is in police custody after allegedly leading officers on a chase north of Grande Prairie. Spirit River RCMP were first called to reports of an armed robbery at a gas station around 1:45 Thursday afternoon.

After the suspect left the gas station, police say he went into a private home and stole a vehicle. RCMP tried to pull him over, and both the stolen vehicle and the police cruiser were damaged.

Mounties then chased him south on Highway 2, and called in reinforcements from the City and County of Grande Prairie. Eventually, the suspect was stopped and the 34 year old was taken into custody.

The events are still under investigation and charges are pending. No one was injured.
