Premier Dave Hancock has apologized for the use of a government plane to Grande Prairie in October 2012.
Alberta’s auditor general Merwan Saher found that it was for partisan purposes, and Hancock says in retrospect it should have been cancelled.
The interim premier had previously defended the flight, saying it was for party business.
Several PC MLAs were on a chartered plane with former premier Alison Redford for a party fundraiser on October 25, 2012.
An announcement was also made that day that $100 million would be added to the budget of the new Grande Prairie Hospital.
At a press conference with Finance Minister Doug Horner this afternoon, he admitted the government has let down Albertans, and says it’s their responsibility to rebuild their trust.
They’re also making changes to how government aircraft are used, including pre-approving guests and considering commercial flight options.
