UPDATE: Rapid spring melt leading to road closures in Birch Hills County

UPDATE: Melting snow is still causing issues and road closures in Birch Hills County. The flooding is moving from the Wanham area to the east and northeast with the Kakut Lake, Peoria, South Codesa, Eaglesham and Tangent areas are expected to see issues over the next few days.

An Alberta Emergency Alert has been issued for the region. Officials ask residents to call the County office at 780-694-3793 to report roads that are flooded or washed out.

A number of roads are closed due to flooding in Birch Hills County, northeast of Grande Prairie. Water levels were beginning to recede though the region says they are concerned that rising temperatures could lead to more flooding.

Chief Administrator Hermann Minderlein says crews were out all weekend and will continue to work on drainage flow in the area. Residents are asked to use caution while travelling around the area.
