Local youth rewarded for community contributions

To mark National Volunteer Week a group of local teens and community members were awarded for their service. The Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau luncheon honoured nine local youth with the “Leaders of Tomorrow” award.

They were nominated through their school or community groups for their hard work. Each award winner recieves a trophy and certificate as well as a $100 cash award and a donation of $100 to a charity of their choice courtesy of ATCO.

This year’s Leaders of Tomorrow are:

Ages 13-15

Madi Campbell nominated by Mother Teresa Leadership Team. Madi’s Charity of Choice is NICU – Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation

Augustine Clarke nominated by Hythe Regional School. Augustine’s Charity of Choice is Rotary House Grande Prairie

Caleigh Gillis nominated by Mother Teresa Leadership Team. Caleigh’s Charity of choice is Grande Prairie Bandaged Paws

Taylor Kimpe-Miller nominated by North Peace Bracket Racing Association. Taylor’s Charity of choice is Kids with Cancer Society
Talia Peters nominated by Mother Teresa Leadership Team. Talia’s Charity of choice is Kev’s Kids Society

Ages 16-18

Revenelle Gladue nominated by John Howard Society of Grande Prairie. Revenelle’s Charity of Choice is Society for Support to Pregnant & Parenting Teens

Kiera Kruger nominated by Lucille Partington. Kiera’s Charity of Choice is Suicide Prevention Resource Centre.

Sophie Leslie nominated by Charles Spencer High School Maverick Movement. Sophie’s Charity of Choice is Foundation Glycosylation

Heather Taylor nominated by Joanna Hotte. Heather’s Charity of Choice is KidSport – Grande Prairie.

Also honoured at the luncheon was this year’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award winner. The Grande Prairie and Area recipient is Jozhua Zhang. The award recognizes hard work and encourages learning outside the boundaries of formal education.
