2day FM and TELUS bringing back the mural

The TELUS building in downtown Grande Prairie will soon be home to another mural. One of the Kakwa Falls painted by local artist Tim Heimdal used to adorn the western side of the building, but repairs eventually forced it down.

Grande Prairie radio station 104.7 2day FM and national telecommunications company TELUS have teamed up to replace it with another piece of art. Following the painting of a rainbow crosswalk during 2017’s Pride Week, the theme of the design will be to showcase that the city is a diverse, inclusive and welcoming community.

Public art submissions are now being taken for the 23 by 39 foot vinyl space, with a $2,500 prize to be awarded to the winning design. It will be unveiled during this year’s Pride Week.

A design contest is also being held in the local school districts. Details of a community vote and a way for others to be involved in the project are to come next month.
