Exhaustive search for missing man could lead to Grande Prairie

RCMP say a man missing from Hay River may be in the Grande Prairie area. 34 year old Junghwan Park, who also goes by David Park, was reported missing by his coworkers on April 4th.

Police in the town conducted a three day search by foot, snowmobile, and air from the 4th to 6th. That expanded into wooded areas and trails on April 7th with the help of the Hay River Fire Department, friends, coworkers, and community members. A six hour aerial search was also done by helicopter on April 12th.

“These efforts and the areas available to be searched have been exhausted, and David remains missing,” police said afterwards. “Hay River RCMP are continuing the investigation, and are seeking any information that may lead to the location of David. They expanded the area of broadcast of the missing person report to Alberta, they are now expanding it further.”

Residents and business owners were asked to check their properties for anything out of place, and drivers to report if they saw anyone walking along the highways in the Hay River area. Anyone who may have picked him up or offered him a ride is also asked to get in touch.

“Tourism and commercial driving on the north’s ice roads draw many people to the north,” says Marie York-Condon with NT RCMP Media Relations. “Any one of them may have offered a ride to David and not be aware he has been reported missing. We are asking anyone who may have had contact with David to please report it to the Hay River RCMP.”

Park was last seen at a Hay River convenience store called The Rooster around 11:15 a.m. on April 3rd. He’s described as being of Korean descent, 5’8″ and 150 pounds with a slight build, short black hair, and brown eyes. Park speaks Korean with limited English, and may be wearing a glasses and a black baseball cap with a white letter “P” on the front.

An update from Grande Prairie RCMP Tuesday indicated Park may be in the areas of Grande Prairie or Clairmont. Any information should be passed on to Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111 or Crime Stoppers.
