Creating the next wave of volunteers in Grande Prairie

Developing more youth volunteers is one of the goals of the Youth Volunteer Certification program being offered through Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau.

Executive Director Carol Anne Pasemko says they want any youth between the ages of 16 and 30 to be able to go into a volunteer situation, and be successful at it.

“We’ll be doing some stuff on personal development, time management, skills appraisals, and identifying their transferable skills. They’ll work on interpersonal skills, verbal communication, how to build rapport, to deal with criticism; how to become self-motivated.”

Communication, problem solving, and decision making are other key areas that will be worked on during the training.

Participants will also receive certification in areas like First Aid, Food Safe, and Workplace Safety.

Registrations are now being accepted for the 10 week program, which will run from April 7th to June 14th.

They can be found online at www.gpvsb.com.
