UPDATE: Bodies of three missing teens recovered from Peace River

UPDATE: The bodies of the 15 and 16 year olds have now been recovered. All three were found within 50 metres of where they were pulled under. None of them were wearing life jackets and their deaths have been ruled accidental.

The body of a 14 year old has been found in the Peace River near Fort Vermilion, and the search continues for a 15 and 16 year old also reported missing.

The three were reportedly swimming in the river Friday evening, and a strong current is believed to have pulled them under.

Emergency services were unable to rescue them, and the 14 year old’s body was found near where they disappeared the next night.

RCMP, North Peace Tribal Police Services from Fox Lake First Nations, local fire and rescue, Canadian Rangers, ESRD and members of the community are still looking for the two others, with patrols by water, air, and along the shoreline.
