Lounge approved for new strip mall across from Eastlink Centre

When the new strip mall across from the Eastlink Centre opens, it will include a new neighbourhood pub.

The City has approved a development permit for a smokery-style lounge with conditions that it close by 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

Being across from a high school and recreation centre, Wade Pilat, who represents the ownership group, says it also won’t allow minors.

“The thinking was that if we allowed minors similar to Brown’s [Social House], it would be a lot harder to regulate and monitor because you’d have them accessing in there so it would easier to have them grab mom or dad’s beer when they go to the washroom.”

Barbecue will be on the menu, and the owners hope to see sports teams stop by for wings and a jug after a game.

Also proposed for the 13,000 square foot mall are a bakery and health facility.
