Bantam Elite hockey provincials go this weekend

The Female Bantam Elite Storm are ready to host a Provincial tournament. It kicks off Thursday and all games will be played at the Coca Cola Arena.

Five teams will be participating. The top 4 teams qualify for the
semi-finals, which will be held Sunday March 25th. Forward Charlieze Sallis says this is what they’ve been working towards all year.

“This is what it’s all come down to. So this is a really big tournament for us to prove ourselves and [show] that we have improved and that we have gotten better and that the style of competition. Basically it shows us what kid of philosophies we need for next year.”

Sallis says those philosophies includes following your teammates and being supportive of each other. Storm Defence Josée Stewart says this will give them a chance to show what the Peace Country can do after a bit of rocky season.

“We get to represent. To play all the teams that we’ve maybe lost to to show them that we can actually beat them.”

“When you think of Storm hockey, ” Stewart added, “you’re thinking more of the boys. So now that we get to have [provincials] here we get to show that there’s female Storm too.”

The Bantam Storm are currently fourth out of six teams in their division. Schedules, results and updates from the tournament can be found on the team’s Facebook page.
