UPDATED: Slick highway conditions around Grande Prairie

UPDATE: RCMP say one person was transported to hospital with what is believed to be non life threatening injuries. Police remain on the scene and advise drivers to expect delays.

An accident on Highway 40 has shut it down at the Wapiti Bridge. RCMP has no estimate immediately available as to when the road would re-open but calls to the 2day FM newsroom indicate traffic is being diverted. Traffic is being re-routed around the bridge on the Weyerehauser hauling road and is moving slowly through the area.

Highway 43 also had snow covered patches this morning leading to spin outs in the valley just outside Grande Prairie. Reports also indicate Highway 2 near Clairmont was slippery with snow covered sections.

Environment Canada’s forecast called for snow through the early hours of Friday but the rest of the weekend is expected to be precipitation free.
