Avoid travel in County of Grande Prairie: officials

The County of Grande Prairie is recommending people avoid any unnecessary travel today. There are numerous reports of roads blocked by drifting snow, caused by ongoing heavy snowfall and high winds.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for the entire Grande Prairie region, and Environment Canada says the heaviest snow is falling west of Grande Prairie. Winds are expected to die down this evening, and the heaviest snowfall should end overnight.

The County has hired extra equipment and is still working extended hours to clear all roads. Anyone who must travel is urged to make sure their vehicles has an emergency roadside kit and a charged cell phone should a call to 9-1-1 be needed.
