UPDATE: Edmonton Institution for Women, Grande Cache Institution lockdowns lifted

UPDATE #2: The lockdown at the Edmonton Institution for Women has also been lifted. Operations are now back to normal, and the Correctional Service of Canada it’s working to better prevent contraband from getting into its facilities.

UPDATE: The exceptional search at the Grande Cache Institution is over and the lockdown has been lifted. There’s no word on whether anything was found or what precipitated the search.

Two prisons that could hold Peace country inmates are currently under lockdown. One was put in place at the Edmonton Institution for Women around 10 a.m. February 21st, and then at the Grande Cache Institution around 8 p.m.

Both are for staff members to do an “exceptional search.” The Correctional Service of Canada says they were both ordered to make sure the facilities, their staff and inmates are safe, but no further details have been released.
