Three vehicle crash claims life in Peace River

One person is dead and three others seriously injured after a crash on Highway 2 in Peace River Tuesday night. Police say an eastbound tractor trailer hit a westbound minivan head on, and then crashed into a car near the west end of the Peace River bridge around 8:37 p.m.

The man driving the van was killed at the scene, and a woman with him was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The car’s driver was also seriously injured and is in an Edmonton hospital, while an 11 year old boy in the car is in critical condition at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Staff Sergeant Brent Meyer says the semi driver did not suffer any life threatening injuries.

Police are in the process of notifying the deceased next of kin and say their identity will not be released. It’s noted Peace Regional Victim are offering help to any family, friends, and witnesses.

Peace Regional RCMP say they’re looking at all possible factors, and a collision analyst has been brought in to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers. Highway 2 reopened to traffic early Wednesday morning, but the 90th Street underpass below Highway 2 is still closed.
