New RCMP crime team arrests driver of stolen vehicle

A new RCMP unit in western Alberta is already having an impact in Grande Prairie. The Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Team is being credited with finding a stolen vehicle in the city Monday.

Around 3 p.m., members on patrol found the vehicle in a College Park alley in the area of 105 Street and 104 Avenue. It was determined to be stolen, and the driver was arrested without incident.

The 36 year old Grande Prairie man has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and three counts of breach of recognizance. He remains in police custody with a court date set for Wednesday.

The new crime reduction unit started operations last week. It will be focused on identifying criminals that have the biggest impacts on communities in our region. One of its priorities will be repeat property crime offenders.
