RCMP warn against driving in Grande Prairie region

Grande Prairie RCMP are warning against any unnecessary travel in the region. Rural highways are covered in snow drifts, and drivers are reporting white out conditions.

Police note Highway 43 from Grande Prairie westbound towards Beaverlodge, Highway 674 and Highway 733 are particularly dangerous. All three are currently heavily backed up due to various crashes.

Anyone who must be on the road is reminded to clear their vehicle of snow and ice, drive with their headlights on, and leave room behind the vehicle they are following.

Conditions are poor on the other side of the B.C. border as well. The Alaska Highway was closed between Dawson Creek and Fort St. John early Tuesday morning, but at last report had opened to single lane alternating traffic roughly 25 kilometres north of Dawson Creek.
