Drivers in Grande Prairie have been taking to social media to voice their opinions on the city’s road conditions. While that’s not new, the posts have stopped targeting potholes and are now mentioning the ruts. On Monday Transportation Manager Robert Carroll said that most of the arterial roads were being dealt with.
“There’s some isolated sections that still have some hard packed snow that causes those ruts on them. Our crews are working on them and we should have most of those areas on our main roads corrected fairly shortly here. But, our priority two roads and our bus routes and our secondaries that’s the ones that are going to take the rest of this week to get cleared and put into windrows.”
Carroll says those windrows will also be removed and taken to the city’s snow dump off Park Road. He says that process with take the rest of this week and won’t be completed until next week.
The ruts are causing people to lose control and spin out in some areas. Carroll says a claim can be filed through the city any damage should occur.
“I know each one of these claims is looked into so it’s not something that I deal with directly but I provide information to our claims department for that and we let them take care of that.”
The city requires anyone making a claim to provide a completed Statement of Damage or Injury Claim Form, and include at least two estimates for repairs to damages (or receipts if repairs have been completed) to their Legislative Services Department.
