UPDATE: Suspect in grader shooting in custody

UPDATE #2: Grande Prairie RCMP say they arrested Dakota Grey without incident at a home in the city around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. They have thanked the public for their help in finding him.

Police first responded to shots fired at a City of Grande Prairie grader in the area of 100 Street and 84 Avenue around 12:20 Saturday morning. Despite the help of Police Dog Services, officers weren’t able to find the suspect.

Further investigation has lead mounties to believe the grader and the suspect’s vehicle got into a crash before the shooting. The man driving the vehicle is then alleged to have gotten out of his vehicle and fired shots at the grader before running away.

The grader operator wasn’t shot, but was taken to hospital with minor injuries. RCMP encourage any witnesses who haven’t yet come forward to do so at the local detachment or to Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.

UPDATE: The City of Grande Prairie has confirmed there was an incident overnight that involved a transportation department employee. They were treated in hospital for undisclosed reasons and have since been released. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police.

Grande Prairie RCMP are looking for a shooting suspect. No details about the shooting have been released.

Edmonton Police Service has issued a warrant for the arrest of 22 year old Dakota Jackson Grey of Grande Prairie, and local police say he’s also wanted for the overnight shooting in the city. Grey is considered armed and dangerous and could be in the Grande Prairie area.

Mounties say he has a number of tattoos, including a notable one on the left cheek of his face. He should not be approached, and anyone who comes across him is told to contact RCMP immediately.
