Wanted man charged with attempted murder

A man wanted on warrants out of Whitecourt has been charged with attempted murder. RCMP say a lengthy investigation into a shooting in Devon in mid-August led to the arrest of 34 year old George Daniel Siemens on January 17th.

On August 18, 2017, a shot was fired at a trucked parked at a gas station. The bullet hit the frame of the gas pump and no one was injured. It was not believed to be a random act.

At the time, police said the shooter had been in a blue Toyota Tundra, which was later found abandoned. It had been stolen out of Wetaskiwin.

Siemens has been in custody at Edmonton Remand Centre on unrelated charges since October 30, 2017. When he was first arrested, he was wanted on warrants for four charges out of Whitecourt, along with several more from other Alberta cities. They are all related to break and enters, theft, and possession of stolen property.

“A significant number of investigations have been solved by the arrest of Siemens.” says Constable Mike Fulton of the Edmonton RCMP Serious Crimes Branch – GIS. “We continue to investigate several other unsolved crimes throughout the region and will determine if there is any evidence amongst the various reported offences to be linked to solved crimes. We strongly encourage the public to contact us if they think they have a tip about an unsolved crime.”

The other charges have not yet been dealt with in court. Police say Siemens will stay in custody until then.
