Peace River fixes one water main break, working on other

The water main that burst downtown Peace River last Friday has been repaired. The town said a valve had frozen and leaked water onto Main Street.

Repairs started Tuesday afternoon but were delayed by another main break in town. The open hole was sealed off Tuesday night, and water service was restored to Main Street Wednesday afternoon.

The other break happened along River Road/94 Street. The main was ruptured by work on the new Peace River bridge, and water in the area had to be rerouted through another line.

The road has reopened at the Highway 2 bridge but the town says the water spilled Tuesday caused ice buildup in the area. Sand has been used to improve traction, but traffic urged to drive carefully in the area.

Contractors will be excavating and repairing the break Thursday.
