County snow removal on hold due to extreme cold weather

The County of Grande Prairie is calling off its snow removal operations due to the extreme cold. Public Works Operation Manager Clint Diederich says they’ll start up again once temperatures are steadily above minus 35 degrees.

“The County’s inclement weather procedure states that non-emergency road maintenance operations must be stopped if temperatures fall below -35. Working in these frigid temperatures is a safety hazard and also increases
the risks of damaging our road maintenance equipment.”

If it’s warm enough, crews will return to finish Clairmont north of 108 Avenue on Monday, January 15th. They’ll then head to La Glace and Clairmont south of 108 Avenue, which includes Whispering Ridge and Westlake Village. Once done, they’ll move on to Wedgewood.
