Keep snow and ice off roads: County

The County of Grande Prairie is urging residents not to pile snow and ice onto their road. A bylaw is in place that mandates anything cleared from their driveways and sidewalks on their property.

“Depositing snow, ice and other material onto roadways, right-of-ways, ditches, or property other than your own is strictly prohibited as per the County’s General Traffic Bylaw 3024 and the Highways Development and Protection Act for a number of reasons,” says bylaw sergeant Kim Donecz. “It causes traffic and safety hazards by making roads uneven and impassable, and slows down the County’s snow removal operations.”

Anyone caught shovelling snow or ice off of their property could be issued a $100 fine, and another $200 for “failure to clean up debris on the road”. They could also be billed for any damage done or cleanup needed.
