Five accused in teen’s murder make first appearance

All five people charged in connection with 16 year old Hannah Sutton’s death made their first appearance in court yesterday via Closed-Circuit TV. The teen’s body was found in a Grande Prairie apartment suite the morning of December 16, 2017.

Her boyfriend, 19 year old Justice Watt-Blais, is charged with her second degree murder. His case has been put off by three weeks, with a next appearance set for January 22nd. The same goes for 21 year old David Comber, who has been charged with accessory to murder after the fact.

20 year old Austin Haynes, 18 year old Darian Chonkolay, and a 17 year old boy who can’t be named are facing the same charge and will next appear in court on January 17th. Alberta Justice says Chonkolay will also appear in youth court, instead of criminal court.

An autopsy confirmed Hannah died of a gunshot wound. A GoFundMe page has so far raised more than $5,300 for her funeral services.
