Regional response to Christmas Day fire

Crews from several different stations around the region responded to a fire just before 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Crews from the Clairmont and Dunes stations responded along with the Sexsmith Fire Department to reports of a chimney fire.

The home in the area of Township Road 732 and Range Road 55 already had visible flames coming from the roof when fire crews arrived. Additional support was called in from Teepee Creek, LaGlace, Bezanson and even a specialized “on scene air pack refilling system” from Wembley was needed.

More than 30 firefighters worked for more than seven hours in extreme cold to get the blaze under control. Sexsmith Fire says there is significant damage to the home but a major section of it was saved from the flames. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
