Second degree murder charge laid in death of 16 year old girl

A second degree murder charge has been laid in connection with the death of a 16 year old girl. Grande Prairie RCMP say Hannah Sutton’s body was found in an apartment suite in the area of 94 Avenue and 100 Street around 10:30 a.m. the morning of December 16, 2017.

Her boyfriend, 19 year old Justice Watt-Blais of Grande Prairie, was arrested on the 20th and charged with the Grande Prairie girl’s murder. Four other men have also been charged in connection with her death, and charges of accessory after the fact to murder are pending.

An autopsy done by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Edmonton confirmed Hannah died of a gunshot wound. A GoFundMe page has been set up by her family to cover her funeral expenses.

Watt-Blais remains in police custody and will appear in court on January 3, 2018. This is Grande Prairie’s first homicide of 2017.
