Alberta Health Services is out with a warning to patients of the fertility clinic at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. 141 patients who underwent endovaginal ultrasounds between November 14 and November 20 will be getting calls from AHS to ensure they are aware of the situation.
They began notifying patients today that they “may be at an exceedingly low risk of exposure to blood-borne and sexually transmitted infection”. AHS says human error is being blamed after device reprocessing standards were not followed and also the over-scheduling of procedures.
Anyone who wants to be tested will be provided with instructions for simple blood and/or urine testing that can rule out infection.
