Wembley fielding concerns of dogs running loose

The Town of Wembley is urging its residents to keep their pets under control after hearing concerns about dogs running at large. As part of the town’s animal control bylaw, owners aren’t allowed to let their dogs roam free.

“As a pet owner, we urge you to review the town’s animal control bylaw posted on the town’s website at www.wembley.ca and not allow your dogs to run at large,” staff say in a release.

“The Town of Wembley is seeking your assistance in keeping our town a safe community for all residents by not allowing your dogs to run at large.”

All dogs are required to be licensed, and a maximum of two dogs are allowed per home, although exceptions are made. Owners must make sure their pet’s barking doesn’t disturb other people and animals, and must pick up their dog’s waste.

Wembley also prohibits dogs from schools, playgrounds, and recreation areas and other posted areas. Owners have to make sure their animal doesn’t attack or threaten a person or another animal, and if it does, a Peace Officer may order it to be confined.
