UPDATE: Stop work order issued at Glenmary School

UPDATE: A stop work order has been issued at Glenmary School. HFCRD says the air quality concerns were prompted by a piece of construction machinery blowing diesel exhaust fumes through the school’s air vents.

Jen-Col Construction is the contractor, and its safety manager will be on site Tuesday to do a “thorough safety investigation.” Its results and a list of corrective actions will be needed before construction can begin again.

Concerned community members are encouraged to contact Superintendent Betty Turpin at 780-624-3956 or [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Glenmary School in Peace River has closed for the afternoon due to air quality concerns. The school is currently undergoing a modernization, and Superintendent Betty Turpin says they’ve been monitoring air quality closely.

“We are thankful to those who alerted us to this situation so we could take immediate action. As with any construction project, unexpected complications can arise at any time and we are thankful that all students and staff were not harmed.”

Holy Family Catholic Regional Division says the majority of students have already been picked up from school. Those remaining will stay at TA Norris School until their parents or guardians arrive or until the buses come at 3:30 p.m.
