2day FM Cares for Kids Radiothon raising funds for Joey Baby Bed

104.7 2day FM will be holding its 4th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon Thursday in Grande Prairie. The radio station will be broadcasting live from the Prairie Mall from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in support of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation.

This year’s goal is to raise $14,000 for the purchase of another Joey Baby Warming System. These unique beds have a soft warm water mattress that is kept at 37 degrees Celsius, which is the optimal temperature for a baby.

It makes the newborn feel like they are next to their mother’s warm skin. They can also be a substitute for an incubator, and look less clinical which is helpful for new parents. Parents can start interacting with their baby earlier, and start that important bonding stage.

The more of these the hospital has, the more incubators are freed up for other children in the NICU as well. Plus, the Joey Beds will be moved to the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital when it opens in 2019.

2day FM wants to make it so as many families as possible can stay in Grande Prairie for their treatment instead of heading to Edmonton. Right now, an average of 2,000 babies are born in Grande Prairie every year. Obstetrics in the new hospital will have space for an anticipated 2,150 annual births in the region by 2025.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Cares for Kids Radiothon can do so by visiting the 2day FM team from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Prairie Mall, or by calling 780-538-7583. Donations of more than $20 can come with a tax receipt.
