UPDATE: 116 Street has reopened after a fatal crash near 132 Avenue. Grande Prairie RCMP say a northbound semi truck crossed the centre line and hit an oncoming SUV around 8:15 a.m.
The SUV’s driver was a 33 year old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin has been notified and her name is not being released.
Three other vehicles were involved in the collision, but police haven’t yet determined what happened. The semi’s driver, and the drivers of two other vehicles were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation with the help of an RCMP collision analyst. Anyone who witnessed it is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers.
Emergency services are currently responding to a fatal collision on 116 Street. The road has been closed in both directions between 124 Avenue and 132 Avenue.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and delays are expected for the next few hours. The crash is still under investigation and we expect to learn more later.
