UPDATE: RCMP investigating Catholic school bus crash

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP say both a 10 year old and the 55 year old driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the crash around 10:49 a.m. this morning. In total, there were 28 children on board at the time, and their parents and caregivers have been notified.

An investigation into the collision is now underway, and police ask any witnesses to come forward to the detachment.

GPCSD Superintendent Karl Germann adds the bus was hit hard enough that a front wheel was torn off. It has been taken off the road, but is expected to be repaired.

“Yellow buses and white buses are the safest form of transportation for students. The bus performed as it should and students were safe.”

No students were hurt in a crash involving a school bus this morning. Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools says the bus was carrying a band from Mother Teresa when it got in a fender bender. It happened at the intersection of Resources Road and 68 Avenue and EMS responded.

The school district has thanked a City of Grande Prairie transit driver who witnessed the crash, and brought the students and their principal to their destination. We’ve reached out to find out how much damage was done to the vehicle.
