Fentanyl information forum to be held next week

Since January first of this year there have been nine confirmed fentanyl related deaths in Grande Prairie. As part of National Addictions Awareness week HIV North, Crime Prevention and other organizations are hosting a fentanyl information forum at Bowes Family Garden next Tuesday.

The highly addictive opioid is 100 times more powerful than morphine. Since the onset of the crisis more than 300 people have died in Alberta from fentanyl related overdoses.

The evening will include information about naloxone kits, which will even be available at the forum. There will also be guest speakers on hand to talk about the impact the drug has had on them.

It will begin at 7 p.m. in the Bowes Family Gardens and is open to everyone. Pre-registration is not required. Non-perishable food bank donations will also be accepted.
