UPDATE: Man in custody after Westpointe incident

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP have a man in custody after reports he may have been armed and barricaded himself inside a Westpointe home. Police say they were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The area was contained by officers, Police Dog Services and other emergency services. The situation was resolved at 6:10 p.m.

RCMP say charges are pending against the man but his name is not being released at this time. An investigation continues and police say the area is now safe for the public.

UPDATE #2: Grande Prairie Public School District says their hold and secure has been lifted.

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP are asking people in the area of 73rd Avenue in Westpointe to stay inside or stay away due to an unfolding police event. A man has possibly armed and barricaded himself alone inside a home, and officers believe the public is not in danger.

Stepping Stones Day Care has also been put under a hold and secure, but RCMP say none of the schools or their students are involved. Traffic is being rerouted.

Two local schools have been put under hold and secure protocol by RCMP. Grande Prairie Public School Division says students and staff at Isabel Campbell are safe, but people are asked not to come to the building until further notice.

École Nouvelle Frontière has confirmed it is also under a hold and secure. We will update when we learn more.
