Steel panels for Red Willow River Bridge upgrade arriving this week

Work to transform the Red Willow River Bridge south of Beaverlodge from a concrete deck to steel panels is expected to be completed in October.

Jamie Frieson with Alberta Transportation says Wednesday and Thursday, those steel panels are being delivered, which may cause delays to people driving in the area 19 kilometres south of the town.

“While they’re unloading those steel panels, there will be a closure. It should be no longer than 30 minutes, but there is a chance that there will be delays for motorists in the area. We just want everyone to know that during those two days there will be approximately four closures of about 30 minutes in length.”

Later in August, work will be done on the rest of the bridge.

Traffic will still be reduced to one lane, but space will be increased to 3.2 metres wide.

The $4.5 dollar project is expected to make the bridge safer and wider.
