New accessible playground now open in Avondale

Grande Prairie families are already enjoying a new playground that is accessible for children with disabilities.

The park at 113th Avenue and 102nd Street, which has not yet been named, has an artificial turf base, and a paved pathway that leads up to a wheelchair ramp.

There’s a junior area designed for children aged 18 months to five years old, and another zone for those up to 12 years old.

Also including in the playground are two net-climbing areas, that were built by an award winning German designer Berliner Seilfabrik that children can climb, swing, and balance on.

Before this park was built, J.C. Mackie was the only playground that could accommodate children with special needs.
