While this August long weekend is the perfect time to enjoy the sun on a boat, the Grande Prairie RCMP and the Canadian Safe Boating Council want to remind you about the risks of drinking and boating.
Approximately 40 per cent of boat-related deaths involve drinking, as the effects of alcohol can be increased by sunshine and the rocking motion of a boat.
Regardless of whether there’s a motor on your boat, you can face charges if you’re above the legal limit of point-oh-eight blood alcohol content.
That means you could even be charged in a canoe.
