St. Patrick School remains a school zone

Even though the building is closed for remediation, the school zone remains in effect by St. Patrick Catholic School. The City of Grande Prairie and the Grande Prairie Catholic School District decided that since the area is still used as a pick up and drop off location for children taking school buses, it should stay a school zone.

“As the risk of injury to children is still present, the City has decided to keep the designated school zone
and the associated signing,” it says in a release. “Please obey the posted speed limit and watch for children during school hours.”

St. Patrick’s was closed less than two weeks before classes began this fall, as the mold problem in the subsurface of the building could no longer be contained. Some floors need to be demolished and rebuilt, and then a modernization is scheduled for three classrooms and the gym.
