Stage set for Centennial Spectacular this weekend in Grande Prairie

This weekend the city will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in style.

The Centennial Spectacular gets started tomorrow evening with a Homecoming Barbecue, the official welcome to the weekend, and an after party.

Councillor Chris Thiessen says Muskoseepi Park will be the place to be all the way through till Sunday.

“We’re going to be playing music and doing live action cultural performances on our twin stages in the parking lot Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We’re going to be having a heritage carnival old fashioned style going down at the museum, and of course we have our Amazing Race on the Sunday.”

Everything going on at Muskoseepi Park will be completely free.

The 100th anniversary celebrations will wrap up Sunday evening at 11 p.m. with a fireworks show over the reservoir.

An event like this takes major planning, and Thiesson says it’s been in the works for about three years.

“We’ve just been going, trying to make this a special day that celebrates Grande Prairie’s past, present, and future. It’s free, so we’re hoping that whoever’s in Grande Prairie for this long weekend will be down in the park with the rest of Grande Prairie.”
