Job rate improves again

Statistics Canada’s unemployment numbers released today show the region which includes Grande Prairie has one of the strongest job markets in the province.

The unemployment rate for the region which includes Peace River, Jasper and Athabasca was 5.8 percent in September. It is the third drop in a row, August we were at 6 percent and before that July was 6.6 percent.

The provincial rate continues to improve as well up from 8.9 percent in September 2016 to 7.9 percent this September. This rate was the fourth highest in Canada behind Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island’s and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The industries in Alberta with the most employment increases included health care, construction and agriculture.

The national unemployment rate remains at 6.2 percent, in September 2016 it was at 7 percent.
