Grande Prairie to walk with Sisters in Spirit

The 9th annual Sisters in Spirit memorial walk and vigil will be held Wednesday in Grande Prairie. Every year on October 4th, communities across Canada gather to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

The walk will begin at the main entrance to the Grande Prairie Regional College at 5 p.m. It will then head to the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre where there will be a candlelit vigil, stories told by the families of local missing and murdered women, and a meal served.

Organizers stress the event is open to all members of the public. Participants are encouraged to wear blue.

RCMP found nearly 1,200 cases of missing or murdered Indigenous women and girls between 1980 and 2012 and a federal inquiry is underway.
