RCMP nab armed robbery suspect

Grande Prairie RCMP have laid charges in connection with an armed robbery on 100th Avenue downtown. On Friday around 11:30 a.m., they say a man with a bandana covering his face smashed a business’ glass jewelry display case with an axe and used bear spray on three employees.

As he ran off, he dropped the items he had taken. Police Dog Services was able to track him down to where he was hiding in Muskoseepi Park, and he was taken into custody.

34 year old Terry James Hickey has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, robbery and breach of recognizance. He remains in police custody and will appear in court on October 16th.

The employees suffered minor injuries.
