Major commercial plans for land in north end of Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie residents can get a peek at proposed plans for a quarter section of land in the north end of the city tonight.

The area west of 100th Street between 132nd Ave and 104th Ave is primarily zoned for commercial use, but with some residential properties on the western edge.

Senior Planner Dan Whelton explains they’re looking at changing that.

“The plan does propose the area that’s identified as residential in that portion of the area structure plan; they’re proposing to make the entire quarter-section commercial instead of having some residential in there.”

If approved, big box stores and car dealerships could be developed in that Trader Ridge area like along 100th Ave and the bypass.

A public information session on development plans is scheduled for tonight at the Pomeroy Hotel from 6 to 8 p.m.
