Elm pruning underway

City workers have started their annual elm pruning process. Pruning is done between October 1st and March 31st, as the province doesn’t allow it during the other part of the year to prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease.

It’s moved by the Elm Bark Beetle, which is attracted to freshly cut areas or open wounds of trees. Proper pruning removes dead or damaged branches, which helps avoid infestations.

Arborists starting removing dead wood from City-owned elms Monday. Residents are asked to be careful around crews.
