City's website wins award for "green" initiatives

The City of Grande Prairie has been recognized for its efforts to go green.

It has received a What’s Next: Green Gov award from Vision Internet, for actions like putting environmental information on its website, and going digital with its newsletters and meeting agendas.

Residents can access forms online, and meeting agendas are emailed out instead of printed.

Web Coordinator Nikki Thompson says the changes have been well-received.

“You can download your tax form… We are moving to the way you should be able to do everything green; it’s really the way people are moving and everyone in the city has really adapted to it, including the city councillors.”

The award was self-nominated, but it was decided Grande Prairie’s website goes above and beyond to reduce material resources.
