Grande Prairie wildfire hazard now High

As expected, the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie region has again increased to High. Although there are periods of rain in the forecast, mostly hot and dry conditions are expected this week.

As such, the public is reminded to check their ATVs for any debris, and properly extinguish their campfire.

The Red Deer Creek wildfire southwest of Grande Prairie is still being held, and firefighters are working to dig up hot areas.

The last few nights an airplane has been flying over the blaze doing a high-altitude infrared scan than can detect hot spots as small as a dime.
