Prospective city councillors invited to all-candidates forum

Grande Prairie residents will have a chance to hear from those running for city council next week. The local chamber of commerce is hosting an all-candidates forum for the municipal election on October 3rd at Revolution Place.

The forum will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Bowes Family Gardens, with a meet and greet for an hour ahead of time. Written questions from the audience will be taken at the door instead of during the event, and because there are so many candidates, three will be randomly drawn to answer them.

Each candidate will also have one chance to give a rebuttal to a question during the evening. Any questions directed to mayoral candidates will be answered by all.

A record number of people are running for city council. The official candidate list has incumbent mayor Bill Given running for reelection against Dick Baillie, Theodore Nikiforuk and Rony Rajput.

Jackie Clayton, Kevin McLean, Kevin O’Toole, and Chris Thiessen have put their names up for reelection as councillors. They’ll be up against Clyde Blackburn, Dylan Bressey, John Croken, Shannon Dunfield, Sydney M. Fletcher, Eunice Friesen, John Alger Mark Kriska, Yadvinder Singh Minhas, Cheryl Montgomery, Timothy Nesbitt, Wade Pilat, Tyla Savard, Morgan Suurd, Cam White, and Mike Wolfel.
