116 Street construction delayed by rain

The recent wet weather has pushed back construction on 116th Street. The work south of 68th Avenue was expected to wrap up at the end of September, but the City of Grande Prairie now expects it to take until October 15th.

Reco Construction is replacing the bridge culvert that takes the road over an offshoot of Flying Shot Lake, and then doing an asphalt overlay of 116th Street from 68th Avenue to the city limits.

The culvert just north of Township Road 711 and Thomas Mechanic Services was built back in 1963 and is at the end of its lifespan. The replacement is expected to last another 45 years.

Range Road 63 is open to local traffic only, other than the bridge site, where there is no through traffic. A signed detour is available on Township Road 710 and Highway 40.
